Her untimely passing from cancer on November 27, 2019 has left her family and friends bereft. She is forever beloved, desperately missed, and always will be. As a writer and storyteller, Augury was unparalleled. Her plots were thoughtful, intricate, and intense. She would run scenes for pretty much anyone who was out in public, no matter the sphere. And sometimes, you would fear that your character wouldn't make it out of the scene intact—and the RP and storytelling would be so good, that you honestly wouldn't care. ==A History of Masquerade MUSH, 1992-2019==

Masquerade was one of the first Storyteller (White Wolf) MUSHes developed and publicly released. Its initial development began in December, 1992, and it first opened for public roleplaying in April, 1993. Set in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Masq was an oWoD (Old World of Darkness) MUSH that at one point supported Mortal, Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Mortal+, Fae, and even Gypsy.Between 1993 and 1996, Masq closed and reopened a number of times. In 1996, the database corrupted and after a project that successfully reduced the db size, the game transferred to a new server. Masq was then stable for a number of years, with Diablerie serving as god of the game. During that time, Augury was known as Kuyan and staffed as Mage / Vampire Wizard and Site Admin. Eventually, she took over from Diablerie as god of Masq. In 2001, there was another database transfer / partial reboot, at which point Masq got a brand new grid. Existing characters were ported also and the timeline remained the same. The time period between 2000-2005 was an especially great and active time on Masq. To quote a former player, "Damn near twenty years later [we] still basically compare all roleplay to the standard of how Masquerade was in the early 2000s." By late 2005, the playerbase had begun to dwindle, and a massive db crash nearly resulted in the game's deletion. Although an older backup was reinstated, the game never fully recovered. In January, 2007, Kuyan made the decision to shut Masq down due to continued declining player interest and lack of staff support. The Masq bboard was enabled at forums.masq.org, where players could stay connected. In February, 2010, Masq reopened! It was a fresh start for the game. While the grid remained the same, all previous characters were wiped and the timeline was reset. The game system was converted to WoD Revised and all code/news files were updated accordingly. This Wiki was also created in 2010 and grew steadily, with staff and player contributions alike. Character types on the new Masq were limited to Mortal, Sorcerer, Psychic, Shifter, and Vampire. For this reboot, Kuyan changed her name to Augury and continued on as God / Site Admin / Chief Storyteller. Until about 2016, Masq enjoyed a second Golden Age of RP. Players and staffers came and went, but Augury remained the driving force behind the game. She approved almost every character application personally, and ran numerous global plots. Beyond that, she encouraged players to run their own PRPs and supported them every step of the way.

There is a coiled tension around this young woman's eyes, making her seem older than her chronological age (mid-twenties, most likely). She projects an aura of stress and tension rather than youth and exuberance. Despite this sour demeanor, she's undeniably beautiful, in a stark, chiseled sort of way. High, broad cheekbones and weirdly light green eyes are offset by tanned skin. Her glossy black hair is pulled, actually scraped, back from her face, adding to the severe look.

Height-wise, she is taller than average and while not overly muscular, has an athletic build. The best way to describe her attire is business-casual, but even that seems oddly formal. She sounds normal, American, but there's definitely something foreign-seeming about her.

Morse is a cool old gift. But times have changed, technology has advanced, and so on. Refinement is an ongoing process and Corax never are one to fall behind on communications technology. Morse can be replaced with a new gift: Twitter. Twitter works exactly like Morse except that you don't have to know Morse code to interpret. Functionally, the Corax follows the same rules as Morse, but the special effect becomes a text message that your brain receives, instantly, from another Corax. Limited to 140 characters like its namesake, of course. It also applies a cute sound effect that varies from person to person, ranging from the infamous ICQ 'uh oh!' to AIM. It's rarely the same twice.

* Reminder to all: Rites '''cannot''' be raised with XP spending. New Rites can only be learned through RP.

* You can only learn one rite at a time.

* Learning a rite is an extended action. A Garou must have a Rituals Knowledge at least equal to the level of the rite she wishes to learn; a character with Rituals 3 cannot master a Level Four rite. She must also spend time — at least one week per level of the rite she wishes to learn (three days for minor rites) — with the elder who knows the rite. The player must roll Intelligence + Rituals (difficulty of 10 minus Intelligence). The number of successes required equals the level of the rite. The student may make one roll per period of teaching (one week for a Level One rite, three weeks for a Level Three rite, etc.). If the student fails a roll, she must spend a Willpower point to continue her studies. If she botches a roll, she is not yet ready to learn the knowledge she seeks. The character must wait at least three turnings of the moon, or until she has more life experience, to try again.

* Although Rites are traditionally taught by elders, on the game you can learn Rites from your fellow Garou. And you can even gain renown from teaching Rites! Woo hoo!

* To begin the learning process from another character or a NPC, the student should put in the +job request regarding learning the Rite. I will not require RP logs of any "teaching" scenes from players, but occasionally a NPC may meet with the student in a scene to RP some teaching.
