Description

Coors Blvd. and adjacent portions of the west mesa are part of a developing area which has received a lot of attention, as it has a distinctive architectural character despite its rapid growth. Specifically, the La Luz residential townhouses along Coors were a pioneering venture in environmentally respectful land-use planning, demonstrating that Albuquerque's ancient traditions are adaptable to modern forms.

Commercial opportunities, parks, and community facilities have lagged behind home construction in this area, but with the opening of Cottonwood Mall, the state's largest regional mall, many Albuquerque businesses have opened west-side branches here. Cottonwood Mall features more than 135 specialty stores, including Laura Ashley, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Williams-Sonoma. Unlike most malls, Cottonwood offers shaded covered walkways, shielding customers from the elements, and greatly improving the shopping environment.

Montano Road heads through this area in an east/west direction. Coors Blvd. heads off to the southwest.
