Zoie - Meeting Kendrick

Date: Setting: IC:  12/11/2008 RL: 05/25/2011 Kiva Coffee -- Albuquerque  Large street-facing windows bring plenty of light into this cozy coffee and tea shop. An expansion of Laura's Herbal Apothecary, it has its own front entrance but shares a large open doorway in the shared wall so people can move easily from space to space. The walls are painted in warm, rich colors, and in one corner of the shop, a kiva-style fireplace adds a classic Southwestern touch. The whole room smells richly of coffee and tea, and the overall atmosphere of the shop is one of cozy relaxation.  At the back of the shop, a long counter holds a cash register and a variety of clean, shiny equipment used to make the coffee and tea drinks sold here. A barista or two is there waiting to take the orders; they wear simple black aprons to keep clean and sometimes cast hopeful looks at the tip jar. Throughout the room, small tables and chairs provide a place to sit, as do comfy-looking armchairs and a booth tucked away in a nook by the front window. The shared wall between the cafe and the apothecary has a cut-out space where a large fish tank (+view here/fish) rests, surrounded by some displays selling coffee and tea. The tank can be viewed from either the apothecary side or the coffee shop side, often attracting curious viewers.  A chalkboard menu (+view here/menu) is attached to the wall behind the barista counter, and a glass case set into the counter shows off various cookies and pastries for sale. Small signs perched here and there throughout the room promise free wifi for technologically-inclined visitors. He seems wrapped up in his world only glancing up at the door opens from time to time. Zoie steps out from the Employee's Only area. She then comes behind the counter with a bright smile. Her eyes of green sweep through the room as she seems to be in a good mood. Her eyes fall on Kendrick and she moves over to him. "Welcome to Kiva." Kendrick looks up from his book and he smiles to you as you walk up to his table. "Yo, it's you again." he taps his foot. "But we only really met for like a few minutes. How you doing?" he glances you over once before leaning back in his chair. Zoie smiles in a vibrant and friendly manner. "I'm Zoie. I work here so let me know if I can get you anything." Those Venus green eyes twinkle a bit as she moves to sit down. "I'm doing just peachy..." She leads off not remembering his name. "What are you reading?" Kendrick holds out a hand in a friendly manner. "Ken, or Kendrick, sometimes Hey you." He looks back to the notebook and shrugs. "Not really reading. It's more like writing, been working on a story idea for my class. I think I'm going to have my kids make a story to give to their parents." Zoie nods her head. "You have kids?" She turns to look for them. Then she chuckles lightly. "Oh.. you mean.. oh." She blushes softly to that. "You are a teacher? What kind?" Her eyes are on him as if there is no one else to distract her. Kendrick watches as you blush and he shrugs. "I guess in a way I do, but I turn them back on their parents when I'm done with them." He smiles and he leans over the table, putting his head in in hands. "I'm teaching kindergarten, and I have to say I think I'm starting to enjoy doing it. But don't go telling anyone. I like grumble about it as a conversation topic. " Zoie claps her hands. "Oh! I /looooove/ kids! Can I like come in and help sometime? Like maybe during a party or something?" She bounces up and down on her seat. "That must be really rewarding and stuff. Do you like have children of your own?" Kendrick blushes a little himself. "Nope, I'd have to be seeing someone to be having kids of my own. That's been a dry road." He clears his throat and smiles as he watches you bounce on your chair. "If you'd like to come hangout and play class helper. I'm going to take you up that offer. Never have enough help."
