Jamak

A Jamak is similar to a Garou totem: a spirit ally who helps a Bastet in exchange for help when it needs it. They often choose the cat they wish to work with, rather than vice versa. The bond between them is a very personal, rather private thing. Partly because of this, and partly because of the independent nature of cats, a Bastet character pays the full background cost for his or her Jamak, and is responsible for any demands it may make; on the other hand, the Bastet is also the only one who can see the spirit, and does not need (nor is allowed) to share the benefits of the relationship with others. The relationship is one of, more or less, equals, and it may teach Gifts, lend abilities or other powers, and share information or help in negotiations with other spirits. It usually has a personal name aside from its descriptor, and after the bond is formed, either member can send a summons to the other, who can respond or ignore it. Of course, too much ignoring tends to damage the relationship! Although these relationships can be dissolved, it's not the sort of situation where you can still be just friends. A Jamak who feels hard done by might turn on the Bastet, and begin aiding his or her enemies instead.
