Security and You

Security Levels and Cost
See the table below for standard levels, costs, difficulty, and description of home/business security on Masq.
This table applies if:
- You are building a NEW PROPERTY, for which you want non-default security
- You are UPGRADING the security of auto-housing or other standard property which you already own
This table does not apply if:
- You already have security jnotes set on your property. If you've already worked out your security with staff, you don't need to do anything new.

|2||5||$50||Your property has slightly below average security. The locks are a little bit flimsy and the windows and doors are not as solid as they could be. There are no security cameras or staff on site.|
|3||6||$500||Your property has standard security: Normal windows and doors, with locks of average difficulty. There are no security cameras or security staff on site.|
|4||7||$5,000||Your property has one regular camera (no night vision) watching the main entry point. The windows and doors are solid, and the locks have been upgraded to above average difficulty. There is often someone around (business staff, neighborhood residents) who might witness or notice suspicious activity.|
|5||8||$10,000||Your property has multiple regular cameras (no night vision) watching most entry points. A standard home/business alarm company will contact police/fire department to investigate if entry points are breached inappropriately or smoke detectors are engaged, triggering a silent alarm.There is often someone around (business staff, neighborhood residents) who might witness or notice suspicious activity.|
|6||9||$20,000 up front, and $5k/month subtracted from your Resources payout||Your property has multiple night vision and regular cameras watching all entry points. A standard home/business alarm company will send security personnel to investigate if entry points are breached inappropriately, triggering a silent alarm. The windows and doors on your property are made of reinforced materials.|
|7||10||$60,000 up front, and $10k/month subtracted from your Resources payout||Your property has multiple night vision and regular cameras watching all entry points. A security company provides armed guards on the premises, able to call for additional backup. Alarms are triggered if entry points are breached inappropriately. The windows and doors on your property are made of reinforced materials. Your property includes a panic room (or other similar fortified room) with an electronic security door lock and a steel security door. The entrance to the panic room may or may not be hidden. The perimeter of the property is fenced if desired.|
*Difficulty of break-in assumes that the PC who is trying to break in has relevant skills in security, lock picking, etc. PCs without relevant skills will have to roll at a higher difficulty.
**$cash cost assumes the PC has no dots in Security. If the PC has dots in Security, staff will ask for +rolls and adjust the required cost accordingly.
If you want a certain level of security but are unable to afford the $cash cost outright, submit a job requesting a payment plan! Your resources income will be lowered by an agreed-upon amount for enough duration of time to meet the price. This reflects paying off the cost. Of course... like all things made in payments, the total will be higher than if it was purchased outright in one go.
Costs don't stack. Buying security level 5 will always cost $10,000, regardless of whether the building is starting at security level 1 or security level 4.
Staff reserves the right to deny unthematic upgrades. Requesting security level 7 for a dorm room, for example, is probably not going to happen.
Default Security for Auto-Housing
Unless jnotes on your property say otherwise, your security is assumed to be in accordance with the table below. If you aren't sure what your security level is, please submit a job asking for clarification. If you would like to UPGRADE your default security (for example, you live at Budget Arms but want Level 4 security), use the table above to determine costs and submit a +job to staff.
