Zoie - Second Job/Log

From Masq

It's Friday night, a bit after sundown (ICly speaking), and this is the start of the 'peak hours' for TriForce gaming, one one of its busier nights of the week. The Computer Zone's busy, with most of the stations taken up by MMOers, and there's some folks just hanging out in the snack area, while others are on their way upstairs to the RPG and LARP areas. Rocky, apparently known to most everyone who walks in the door (and quickly introduced by those who do know her to those who don't), is near the door, meeting and greeting everyone who comes in and sing-songing, "Bye! Bye! Bye!" at everyone who's leaving, smiling all the while. She doesn't seem to know any one general customer /very/ well, but greets everyone the same, it seems, and they all seem appreciative of it - customer loyalty in the offing.

There are posters and free-standing signs EVERYWHERE, proclaiming a Masquerade Ball scheduled to happen soon. (On the RL weekend after next!)

Zoie skips up to the shop, not really aware that she has a chance to be seen before entering it. Her hands come up to smooth out her blonde hair and then run down her clothing. In fact, Zoie's lips move silently as if giving herself a pep talk. The girl swings through the door and walks through. Well, she would have if she did not just swing the door and put her hand down. Instead she gets slammed back into the face and her nose. There is a yelp of pain as her hands immediately cover her nose. As well, lacking a tissue, she uses the paper in her hand to try and stop the blood.

Rocky, having just greeting someone else who arrived ahead of Zoie, turns her head when the door opens... and sees the bloodying of the nose. Going to the register, she tells the person there to hand her the box of tissues, and hurries to the girl in the doorway, pulling out a couple of tissues to offer over. "Here! Use these!", she says, waving a hand and calling out into the snack area. "Hey, guys! Bring me a chair over here, will ya?!"... and actually gets someone started bringing a chair over for Zoie to sit herself down in.

Zoie puts a couple tissues to her nose and offers a muffled. "Fank you." The green of her eyes are a bit watery from the collision, but she will recover fine. Zoie looks over at Rocky and then the others as she moves to that brought over chair. "I wuf wookin' foh da bawth."

"Looking for the bath?", Rocky wonders aloud, a bit confused, eyebrows furrowing together. Then, a moment later, she translates it past the muffling of the nose and tissues. "Oh! Looking for the boss! That's me, Rocky!", she says, with a smile. "What can I do for ya?", she asks, as she receives the small trashcan brought to her by the person manning her cash register for her, in which to receive the soiled tissues.

Zoie sniffs a bit to stop the blood flow as well. The tissues are tossed into the proper place before she looks up at the other person. "I brought my qualifications as I was looking for a job." There is a pause as Zoie's green eyes turn towards the bloody paper. A blush coats her cheeks.

"Oh, well, tell me about you, then... other than a talent for causing yourself great pain, Seymour, what do you bring to TriForce?", Rocky asks, with a joking sort of tone to her voice, and a friendly sort of grin on her lips. "... and what's your name, or should I keep calling ya 'Seymour'?"

"Seymour?" Zoie blinks those long lashes without any clue at the joke. In fact, she looks over her shoulder to see who this person might be. Then she turns and offers a //clean// hand to the other woman. "Zoie. Zoie Croft. I um.. I'm a dance major at the college, I have a roomie who's a teacher, I use to work at Kiva." She offers all of this helpfully.

"Oh, yeah... I heard about the bombing. Sad about the old guy... no one else got hurt bad, right?", Rocky asks, sounding truly concerned. She goes on, though, with a gesture around herself, "You any good with computers? Know networking or software or hardware or anything? Sounds like you can handle a cash register at least, right?", she asks.

Zoie frowns at the mention of computers. "I know how to IM on them." She offers helpfully before she lights up. At least, she has the pretty face for a gamer community. "Oh! I can totally rock a cash register. There were like two others killed in it and like a few others hurt." She pauses and is silent before offering. "I'm also totally awesome."

"Well, lemme getcha a guest login real quick and you can sign in on a free computer, visit our web page, and fill out the online application and stuff", Rocky says. "Your nose done bleeding?", she asks, still holding the tissue box and the little trashcan.

Zoie nods her head. "Yeah, I don't really bleed for long or anything. I don't always run into doors. I mean sure sometimes, but the doors are sometimes confusing. Like do you pull or you push? They all need those little signs on them. Oh signs, do I get to like wear a name tag and is there a badge or something? Maybe a uniform?" Then and only then does Zoie take a breath.

Rocky points at the person behind the cash register, who's dressed as seems comfortable for them... while wearing a name badge on a lanyard around their neck. "Just a badge with your name on it, on a lanyard like that", she says. "And the doors are all marked for pushing or pulling... just look for the little gold sticker-signs, huh?", as she heads over to hand the things back to the cash register person, and get a slip of paper with a the information for a half-hour guest login written on it. "Here ya go", she offers, handing the login information over.

Zoie moves over to one of the public terminals and logs in. She actually seems to type decently fast as she fills out that wonderful form of name, address, etc. The whole thing completed and submitted. It is here that Zoie turns her bright, innocent green eyes towards Rocky. "So like.. I have the job then?"

Rocky, by the time Zoie's done with that, has an iPad in her hands... and already has the application in her hands. "Well, considering that I was looking for someone to handle the afternoon or early evening shift... and ain't got no other applicants, yet, yeah.... you want full-time or part-time hours?", she asks. "You'll hafta learn some stuff, probably, like how to make login accounts, how to use the monitoring software, stuff like that for the Computer Zone... but you're a college student, so I betcha you can pick that up easylike..."

Zoie gives a squeal and flies out of her seat. In fact, she attempts to hug Rocky over that news and bounces. "I can learn anything. I mean that would work great. Whatever you need. I'll be it." She hops a few more times in her excitement. "You won't regret this, I'll be the best login maker you ever had."

Rocky giggles, and returns the hug. "Just... be careful of the doors. They're mean around here!", she warns, teasingly serious in her tone of voice. "Oh... and you can start as soon as tomorrow, too", she adds. "That'll give us plenty of time to have you trained up and ready to go for the Masquerade Ball, just in case your shift falls on that night... and we plan on having a double-shift running that night, anyway."

Zoie opens her eyes to that. "Oh.. you are having a ball, like with um.. princesses and stuff?" She turns to look at the flyer and nods her head. "I totally can start. I mean.. it's not like I have to give notice at Kiva."

"Speaking of which... are you gonna go /back/ to Kiva when then reopen?", Rocky asks, saying it as if she's sure the place will eventually reopen. "If you're only gonna be with us temporary, I need to know that and have it listed in your file, too... and, yeah, a Masquerade Ball. Check out the fliers at the register, they give more detail."

"Well I was thinking if Kiva opens back up that I would go back. Katie is kinda like family to me. I wouldn't want to leave her hanging in lieu of a loss you know." Zoie frowns a bit to that. "Though maybe I could work both places too. It wouldn't hurt and I like to stay busy."

"Well, long as you can handle two jobs /and/ school at the same time", Rocky says. "How about I list ya as temp for now, and if you decide to stay, even after Kiva reopens, we can change your status, then?", she suggests, tap-tapping at the iPad in her hand with one fingertip.

Zoie nods her head and tries to peer at the iPad with a loft of her brows before looking back to the woman. "So what all would I need to be doing here?" She smiles in a truly happy manner. She has new employment. "Do I get to go to the ball?"

"If you're not on-shift that night, darn right you do", Rocky says, then adds, in a conspiratorial sort of whisper, "... though I'm paying overtime pay for anyone who's on the clock that night, and giving ya free entrance if you're not and wanna come..." On the iPad is what looks to be a personnel file - Zoie's, of course. Rocky's been adding on the notation about being a temp employee and whatnot.

Zoie smiles. "I like time and a half. I can totally work at the party thing. I would be happy to um.. do.. mask.. stuff." Spoken like a girl not sure what all that involves.

Rocky grins. "Step one... learn yourself up on Masquerade Balls, okay?", she says. "Step two... tell me if you want full time or part time, at least til Kiva reopens - we can change your schedule then... and tell me what shift you wanna work...", she adds, pointing at the iPad in her hand.

Zoie thinks. "Well, I could use benefits, do you offer those to full time employees? I would like to you know, get some of those in case I get sick. I'll also pick up Idiot's guide to masquerades." She giggles and blushes a bit more.

"We're pretty new, and still getting all the particulars set up for benefits, but we're planning on offering 'em, yeah.... if you stopped working for us full-time, though, to go back to Kiva, you'd lose 'em", Rocky says. Then, she adds, "You might wanna learn about RPGs, too, at least in general. Most of our customers are gamers. Won't matter if you aren't /really/ geek, 'cause you're a girl and that'll carry a LOTTA weight with 'em, but you'll wanna be able to understand what they're talking about and communicate with them without making 'em blow ya off."

Zoie nods her head to that information. "Well I will ask Gareth, he's like all down with the RPG and things. I'm sure he will help me brush up on that." She smiles warmly to the woman and then tosses her golden hair as she hops in place again. "I have a job. I have a job."

Rocky nods. "Yep, you have a job. Why don't ya show up... tomorrow evening, and I'll run you through the basics myself, and stuff?", she offers, then lifts her hand to waggle fingers at a couple of guys who're headed out, sing-songing, "Bye! Bye! Bye!" at them. Yes, it's /right/ outta the old N'Sync song.

Zoie turns and looks at the men. There is one of those beautiful smiles given to them as she wiggles her own fingers. Then she looks back towards Rocky. "Okay! thank you again for hiring me." She moves to hug the other woman again. Yeah, that's right men. Watch the beautiful women embrace. This store rocks.

Yeah. The gamer geeks leaving the store /stop and look/ for a bit, and Rocky can't help but giggle at their reaction. Then finally do head out, and it's pretty well guaranteed they're coming back, later. "You did that on /purpose/", Rocky says, once they're gone, with a grin on her lips and a playfully accusatory tone to her voice. She then taptaptaps at the iPad again, before reaching over to hand it to the register clerk. "Upload the application data for me to the employee database, please?", she asks. "I /still/ mix up how to do that..." It seems even the /boss/ isn't all /that/ computer-savvy, herself. Someone else must be the techie, here.

"Well I did want to thank you and one of the guys was always talking about pretty girls hugging." Okay, the other man didn't say hugging. Zoie beams a bit to this and then lowers her eyes just a bit. "Was it bad to do that?"

"Nah... they'll probably just talk about it and be all googly-eyed next time they show up, wondering if they'll see ya hugging on me again, sometime", Rocky says with a dismissive wave of one hand. "Oh, one thing, though... I ain't the only one who sometimes uses the office door back there. You see someone enter a code in the pad that unlocks the door? Don't worry about it, that just means they're authorized to be there; I gots a few partners, but I'm the 'face'. If you see someone getting a red light and the door not opening for 'em? Shoo 'em away...", she adds, with a gesture to the little hallway back by the stairs. "Regular employees don't get access in there, though... security issues and all that, the usual stuff."

Zoie looks back to that room now. It's almost like she didn't want to know what was in there until told she can't know. The look is clearly upon her features as she thinks this. Then she turns to look back at Rocky. "Well.. I should um.. probably go download the training manual thing or whatever was on the site. Then I'll show up bright and early tomorrow?"

"Just after sundown, that's when I like to work", Rocky says with a smile. "Night owl, I am...", she adds with a shrug. "One of the perks of being my own boss."

Zoie nods her head. "I keep odd hours too. I don't know why that is. I suppose it means I am supposed to not miss out on stuff." She wiggles her fingers. "Thanks for hiring me."
